Golden Apples

Proverbs 25:11
“Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a ruling rightly given.”

The Living bibles translations says,
“Timely advice is a lovely as golden apples in a silver basket.”

Solomon was referring to an ancient royal custom he that he would do. He would host a party in his home for the known world. During their stay he would invite them to share in a magnificent feast at his table as his royal guests.
The centerpiece of the banquet table was a silver basket filled with beautiful golden apples and at the end of the meal, they would pass around the basket and every guest was invited to select one beautiful, gleaming, golden apple for themselves.

Solomon wanted us to understand that beautiful words can be as lovely as golden apples! Words are important! We all know the old Rhyme we used to say as kids, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”
This is a cute saying but is fundamentally false, because words can hurt you!
We live in a world of words and they can hurt!

Words have power! It was once reported that Adolf Hitler declared he would conquer more nations by the pen than by the sword. He proved his theory because he knew the importance of words. He did more damage with his negative words than could have been imagined.

It’s time for us to fill up our silver baskets (spiritually speaking) and hand out a golden apple to those who are hurting among us.
Golden apples are like words of encouragement to those who are around us!

My favorite definition of encouragement is to “inspire with courage, spirit or hope.”

Today I encourage you to spread a virus of encouragement to everyone who crosses your path!
We literally are handing out apples in the church office to start this challenge today!
Remember, a single word can change a life! Speak Life!
